i spent an hour or more looking more closely at a piece of a recently burned tree trunk - looking for shapes and patterns that my odd mind found intriguing. this is one of those areas i found most interesting. it reminds me of the armor on the hero of the video game Halo.

it’s unbelievable what we see when we stop to look around. truly experiencing a place, a scene, a tree, a forest or a stream is something we should all strive to do regularly. i experienced an odd feeling of kinship having spent so much time with this charred specimen - the result of one of the fastest growing wildfires in colorado history. as i got up to leave - looking for the next bit of beauty in the disaster that was the second largest fire in the state’s history, i patted my newfound friend on the shoulder as if to say i was sorry.

i don’t often like my prints to be small as i feel the expression isn’t necessarily as impactful in smaller print sizes. at the same time, i realize not all people can afford the larger prints. this print, however looks fantastic printed small, and so i’m offering it as either a matted, or non-matted 8x10 inch giclee pigment print on hahnemuhle baryta paper.
