this butte is located near what used to be bears ears national monument just north of the Navajo Nation - one of the hardest hit locations by covid, per capita. many here can't socially distance as treaty water rights previously guaranteeing water to the Navajo have been reneged, so water delivery is a must in this dry, dusty climate.

this image was selected into the upcoming Emerge juried show at d’art gallery in denver, co. it was selected by Mary Voelz Chandler, a writer on the arts, architecture and preservation. she was the art and architecture writer for the Rocky Mountain News in Denver and co-author of the 2009 book, Colorado Abstract with Michael Pagila - a writer and critic for Westword. not only is it a huge honor to be included in this show, have this piece selected by such an esteemed art critic, but also an honor to tell of the struggles of some of those in this country that we don’t often hear about.
