Growing Pains
Growing Pains
i find myself more and more intrigued by stopping and finding the beauty in the often overlooked. i’d rather spend more time stopping and looking for the beauty in the ordinary, then passing by to get to locations considered beautiful by the masses. there’s an immense satisfaction in finding a small scene worth photographing and working that scene to find the most expressive image possible.
scenes such as this feel more intimate. not only does the focal length and distance from the subject give the viewer a feeling of intimacy, but the time spent with the subject and the time within the location allows me to become more intimate with the subject.
this is just a piece of tree bark. but i found the repeating patterns to be hugely interesting. the day was overcast, but there was enough diffuse light to create a side of the tree that was lit while the other side was in soft shadow. i love the texture of the bark in conjunction with the textural components of those repeating patterns of “ripped bark.”
