Working Overtime
this image is another from the vaults of film. it was shot on fuji velvia on a pentax 67. i’d thrown in the roll of velvia earlier as i thought the light would be nice for a roll of color. i didn’t get the shoot the whole roll and before i knew it, the sunset blew up into one of the most intense i’ve seen. i know slide film has a very narrow dynamic range, and i figured the images wouldn’t turn out. i was more than pleasantly surprised to see the highlights weren’t blown and the shadows blacked out - offering the nice silhouettes of the oil rig continuing to pump as the night began.
if you spend any time in eastern colorado, you’ll see the gas and oil industry making its presence felt. there’s not a whole lot there other than farms and the occasional cottonwood tree.
