Leigh Cabell and I are excited to be exhibiting together once again at Artists on Santa Fe throughout the month of October. Leigh’s assemblage art pieces using items we typically discard offer an additional dimension to my landscape photographs with wilderness conservation in mind. For this exhibit, Leigh has chosen to replicate a number of my black and white images, along with a few lower saturation color images, in her unique style. She captures the tonality and texture of each of the images with a deft hand – using only recyclable materials as they are found. Leigh hopes to encourage others to consider how their actions impact the natural world. Together, we hope to inspire others to be mindful about the preservation of nature and how we leave wild spaces for future generations.
Leigh and I met at one of my photography exhibits where she asked for permission to create a piece based on my photographs, to which I happily (and humbly) responded, “yes!” That led to an exhibit at Artists on Santa Fe last year, which was met with overwhelmingly positive reactions. The reactions were so positive, in fact, that we’ve decided to collaborate once again!
Come check out my images along with Leigh’s fantastic renditions of the images, if you can. If you had an opportunity to see our last exhibit, we both feel this one is even better!
She and I will both be on hand at the gallery on First Friday, October 6 from 6 PM - 9 PM as well as for our Artist Reception on October 20 from 5 - 8:30 PM. If you’d like to visit and talk about some of the pieces but can’t make either of those times, I’ll do my best to arrange to be at the gallery - if you can give me a heads up on when you might be there.
