droning over the antarctic landscape, i spotted this mountain ridge leading to this volcano…

or so i imagined upon framing this abstraction set in the ice on a river in rocky mountain national park. a key element of the image - the black “top” of the volcano is a portion of water pushing along the underside of the ice. i had to photograph in burst mode in an attempt to capture a moment when the “top” would magically fall into place. it, in itself, was an exercise in patience.
