there are moments when i’m out in the mountains, woods or desert that i feel there’s an image where i’m located. i don’t know what it is - perhaps a sixth sense, a muse or just my stomach growling out of hunger. nonetheless, that was the feeling i had when i stood at one of my favorite pools in rocky mountain national park. i’d been here a number of times before - always making photographs that were always rather uninteresting. but i keep coming back. and on this particular day, that feeling appeared - there’s something here. when i get that feeling, i look more closely, more intensely.

after bobbing and weaving beneath branches, changing perspective and hopping from rock to rock, i saw it. the reflection of the sun in the water, when placed behind the reflection of the tree, gave a mysterious, dreamy feeling. combining the location of the sun’s reflection in the pool with a shallow depth of field gave the appearance of snow - or perhaps christmas lights on the pine tree.
