there’s a period of time, perhaps ten minutes during some sunrises and sunsets when the light becomes a perfect shade of gold. many days, this “magic moment” doesn’t occur, so it’s never to be taken for granted. it’s also at this time i tend to freak the heck out looking around because everything looks so different and beautiful in this light than it does even a few minutes before or a few minutes after.

and so it was - this golden moment and i’m in the midst of the valley of the gods in southeast utah, watching the light on the brush leading up to and the two prominent peaks in the distance. this is one of those examples that looks fabulous in color as well as black and white with that golden light on the peaks and the brush. but I chose the black and white as it just feels more southwest to me.
