the east troublesome fire began on october 14, 2020 in grand county in colorado. the fire grew by 87,000 acres in just under 24 hours between october 21 and 22 - a mere 50,000 acres less than the previous largest fire in state history. part of that growth entailed spreading from tree line on the west side of the continental divide to tree line on the east side of the continental divide with the help of 100 mile per hour winds. as it made its way towards the town of estes partk, co, cool, humid weather and a snowstorm set in that helped firefighters gain containment of the fire. the town of grand lake, colorado saw many homes and business burned and impacted, while rocky mountain national park estimated ten percent of the park was impacted by this fire as well as the cameron peak fire in the northern part of the park.
